What is most important in therapy is feeling that you have a good fit with your therapist. Therapy is a very personal endeavor, and everyone has a unique fit.

Therapy rarely works when you are in a relationship where you feel you cannot bring yourself and feel seen.  I may not end up being the best fit for you, and you should check in with yourself regularly about what it is that you best need, for you.
